CONSERVATION RESERVE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM

The Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) is a State enhanced version of the USDA Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).  Landowners who retire frequently flooded and environmentally sensitive land in the Illinois River Watershed will receive reimbursement for establishing approved conservation practices, incentive payments for sign-up and rental payments for the life of the Federal contract.  Federal contracts are 14 to 15 years in length.  A voluntary 15-year or 35 year contract extension or permanent conservation easement can be added at the State level.

Federal and State incentives vary depending upon the conservation practices implemented and the length of the contract.  In Adams County, land eligible for CREP must be physically located in the Lamoine River Basin or the McKee Creek River Basin (the area shaded in green below).
